In 2009 Kinship launched a new church program called: Under My Wing. The premise of the program is to match one church and one school with the church accepting the responsibility of finding mentors for a predetermined number of local children, and the school identifying and referring children to Kinship. View our Under my Wing Brochure.
Details of the Church-School Model are as follows:
- Kinship provides staff, materials and agenda for meetings with school officials.
- Kinship and church agree to strictly adhere to the separation of church and state.
- Kinship agrees to make and support matches between children and adults/couples/families and to screen all participants, including children.
- Kinship provides professional staff who adhere to quality mentoring program standards including: recruiting, screening, training, matching and providing match support for children and their mentors. All mentors will go through Kinship’s background and criminal history checks.
- Church agrees to do an internal campaign to begin the recruitment of our agreed upon number of mentors before the program begins.
- Church agrees to discuss revenue/funding options in support of program costs incurred by Kinship in creating and supporting matches.
- School agrees to allow Kinship to train their staff on identifying and referring children to the program.
- School agrees to provide some assistance in marketing Kinship’s program to families, and potential mentors from within the school community.
